Purpose. We’re all driven by different things. We may have a different purpose, but there is value in self-awareness. There is value in knowing what drives you. Why do you get out of bed each morning? What brings you joy? What brings you happiness? What makes you feel fulfilled?
The more you discover what truly drives you the more you can bring your best each day. The more you’re at your best, the more those around you will benefit. People will be inspired by you if you live a life of purpose and can articulate it.
To discover your purpose start in your own backyard. We don’t need to go searching in far off lands to find what we’re most passionate about or what brings us joy. Think back to what you enjoyed during your childhood. Or think about what you are genuinely skilled at. What talents do others compliment you for? The point is we already possess a purpose. Some guided reflection can help uncover it and bring it more clearly into view.
If you’re stuck, try the simple lottery exercise. Imagine you’ve won the lottery, what would you do after you’ve taken care of your family and traveled the world? How would you spend your time if you didn’t have to work for a living?
Getting clear about your purpose can lead to more work and life integration. Do you want a job? A career? Or do you want a calling? Imagine getting paid for something you’re good at and that deeply inspires you. It all starts with a purpose.
